MOLA Facts and Figures

Finite Element Model (FEM) and Mechanical Information on the MOLA Instrument.

The original MOLA, which flew on the Mars Observer a couple years ago, was the starting point for the design of MOLA-2. In fact, most aspects of MOLA-2 are identical to MOLA-1. There are, however, some major differences. Pictures of the MOLA-2 model are available to understand what it looks like. In particular, the exploded view gives more detailed information about the instrument and the FEM.

Please keep in mind that these are just little factoids that I am making available about the model. No attempt is being made here to provide a complete overview.

On this page you will find:

  • MOLA Materials list.
  • MOLA 2 FEM Stats.
  • Mass Properties of the standard MOLA Model.
  • UAI/NASTRAN Grid Point Weight Generator Table for the MOLA 2 FEM.
  • Mass Properties of the Dynamics MOLA Model.
